Elena Rendina

Elena Rendina

Inspired by the classic 1953 film Mogambo,
starring Clark Gable, Ava Gardner and Grace Kelly,
photographer and set designer Elena Rendina
stepped before her lens for her debut series of selfportraits,
exclusively for The Ingénue.
Italian-born, London-based Rendina, who began
her career assisting fashion master Paolo Roversi
and has since worked with a who’s who of editorial
and fashion clients, is all about staying true to her
vision. As well as designing all her own sets, she
often makes clothes and styles her subjects, and her
detail-oriented, fantastical approach is evident in
her self-portraits, too.
Rendina drew from the Kenya-set tale of a biggame
hunter (Gable) who becomes embroiled in a
complicated love triangle with a seductive American
socialite (Gardner) and an anthropologist’s wife
(Kelly). Capturing the colonial grandeur, exoticism
and romance of Hollywood’s 1950s Africa, Rendina’s
portraits were staged at the iconic Madonna Inn on
California’s Central Coast.
